Booking and payment

How do I book?

Choose your dates on the booking page. The total, including the £40 cleaning fee, shows straight away. Add your details, pay by card, and you'll get a confirmation email within a minute.

Why book direct rather than through a booking site?

Book direct to avoid third-party booking fees. Here there's no booking fee, no service fee and no card surcharge, and you deal with us, the owners, from start to finish. Our direct price is also set below the same dates on other sites.

How and when do I pay?

In full when you book, by debit or credit card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. Payments go through Stripe and we never see your card details. No VAT is added because we're not VAT-registered.

What's included in the price?

Your nights, bed linen, towels, wifi, and the £40 cleaning fee, which is shown as its own line and included in every total.

Is my booking secure?

Yes. Payment is handled by Stripe with your bank's security checks, and your dates are confirmed the moment you pay. We've hosted guests here for four years and we're Airbnb Superhosts with 241 reviews.

Cancellation

Can I cancel?

Yes. Cancel at least 7 days before arrival and you get a full refund, cleaning fee included. Use the "Cancel booking" link in your confirmation email: the refund goes back to your card automatically and you don't need to contact us.

What if I cancel less than 7 days before?

The online cancel option closes at 4pm (UK time) seven days before your arrival date, and after that bookings aren't refundable. If we re-let your nights, we'll refund them. Travel insurance is worth having.

How long do refunds take?

Stripe sends them straight away; most banks show the money within 5–10 working days.

Is there a 14-day cooling-off period?

No. The law doesn't give one for bookings of accommodation on set dates. Our free cancellation until 7 days before arrival applies instead.

Arrival and the cottage

What time can I arrive and leave?

Check-in from 4pm and check-out by 10am. Ask if you need flexibility and we'll help if we can.

How do I get in?

Self check-in with a key safe. You'll get the address, the code and directions by email the day before arrival (straight away if you book the day before or on the day).

Is there parking?

Yes, free on the road right outside.

How many can stay?

Up to 4 guests in the beds: one double and two singles. The box room is for luggage, not sleeping.

Can we bring a baby?

Yes. One baby under 2 can stay as well as the 4 guests, in a travel cot we provide free (or bring your own), and there's a highchair too. That's the only way to make five: we can't take a fifth guest aged 2 or over, or more than one baby. Add them as an "Infant (under 2)" when you book.

Are the stairs suitable for everyone?

They're steep. Most guests manage fine, but they may be hard with limited mobility, and small children need a hand. See the photo on The Cottage page or ask us.

Can I bring my dog or other pet?

Yes. Up to 2 well-behaved pets are welcome per booking (most guests bring dogs). Please keep them off beds and sofas, and don't leave them alone in the cottage. There's a vestibule for muddy paws, the back garden is enclosed by a planted boundary, and there are plenty of dog walks from the door. For an off-lead run, Trawden Recreation Ground on Keighley Road is a big walled field with views to Pendle that local dog walkers love: there are no council restrictions on dogs there, but it isn't a secure dog field, so it suits dogs with good recall. Keep clear of football matches (August to May, mostly weekends) and pick up after your dog. More tips in our visitor's guide.

Is there wifi and a TV?

Yes, wifi, a new 50-inch smart TV and a Marshall Bluetooth speaker.

Is there a pub nearby?

The community-owned Trawden Arms is a few minutes' walk away, and dogs are welcome. See Eating out.

Location

Where exactly is Spring Cottage?

In Trawden, a village about 1.5 miles from Colne in the Borough of Pendle, Lancashire. The exact address is sent with your booking confirmation. See getting to Trawden.

Is Spring Cottage dog-friendly?

Yes. Up to 2 dogs (or other well-behaved pets) are welcome per booking. The back garden is enclosed by a planted boundary, there's a vestibule for muddy paws, walks start from the door, and the Trawden Arms in the village welcomes dogs. Read our dog-friendly guide.

How far is Spring Cottage from Pendle Hill?

About 7 miles. Barley, the usual start for the climb, is a 20–25 minute drive.

Can you walk to Wycoller from Spring Cottage?

Yes. Our Trawden to Wycoller walk starts at the Trawden Arms in the village and reaches Wycoller part-way along its 4-mile route to Laneshaw Bridge. By road, Wycoller Country Park is about 2 miles away. There's no café in Wycoller now, so take a picnic.

Is Spring Cottage in Brontë country?

Yes. Wycoller Hall, within walking distance, is thought to be the model for Ferndean Manor in Jane Eyre, and Haworth and the Brontë Parsonage are about 10 miles away, a 25-minute drive. See Wycoller.

Is Trawden a good base for the Yorkshire Dales?

Skipton, the gateway to the Dales, is about 14 miles away (a 30-minute drive), and Malham is about 45 minutes by car.

How far is Trawden from Manchester and Leeds?

About 35 miles from each, roughly an hour by road. Burnley Manchester Road station, a 15–20 minute drive, has direct trains to both.
