The cottage

Old stone, new comforts

Spring Cottage has stood in Trawden for somewhere between 300 and 400 years. We renovated it top to bottom, keeping the stonework and swapping the draughts for a proper kitchen, a rain shower and wifi.

Downstairs is one open room built around the stove. Upstairs are a double and a twin, and a bathroom where the bath sits against 300-year-old stone. Out the back, the private garden faces south, catches the sun all summer and is enclosed by a planted boundary, so dogs can potter about.

Your hosts

This was our home

Spring Cottage was our family home. We renovated the whole house, then the family grew, three children later, and we had to move somewhere bigger. We still miss it, so we kept it, and we've been sharing it with guests for four years now.

We live two minutes away, so if the stove sulks or you want to know which way the footpath goes, we're close by.

Out of the front door

Walks start at the gate

Within minutes you're on the old packhorse tracks of Trawden Forest. There's Wycoller, with its clapper bridges and Brontë ruins, Lumb Spout waterfall and the climb to Lad Law on Boulsworth Hill, where on a clear day you can see Pendle Hill and the Yorkshire Three Peaks, and the walk from Trawden to Wycoller.

Top questions

Good to know

How do I book?

Choose your dates on the booking page. The total, including the £40 cleaning fee, shows straight away. Add your details, pay by card, and your confirmation email follows within a minute.

Can I cancel?

Yes. Cancel at least 7 days before arrival and you get a full refund, cleaning fee included. Use the "Cancel booking" link in your confirmation email: the refund goes back to your card automatically.

Can I bring my dog?

Yes. Up to 2 well-behaved pets are welcome per booking (most guests bring dogs). Please keep them off beds and sofas. There's a vestibule for muddy paws.

Are the stairs suitable for everyone?

They're steep. Most guests manage fine, but they may be hard with limited mobility, and small children need a hand. See the photo on The Cottage page or ask us.

How many can stay?

Up to 4 guests in the beds (one double, two singles), plus 1 baby under 2 in a travel cot we provide free. There's a highchair too. 5 at most, and never more than one baby.

Is there parking?

Yes, free on the road right outside.

Is the garden enclosed for dogs?

Yes. The private back garden is enclosed by a planted boundary of hedging and planting rather than walls.
